Shop work / Retail volunteers needed for Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC) in RG1

RISC’s amazing world shop is just sparkling with fair traded delights from the Majority World.

We hope our volunteers will commit to a regular four-hour slot each week.

We are looking for volunteers who will:

  • serve customers, take their orders if necessary and use book stock database to search for customer book inquiries
  • operate an electronic cash register and pdq machine (credit/debit card machine)
  • implement shop policies and procedures
  • attend shop staff meetings
  • re-stock shelves implementing a ‘stock rotation’ system
  • check stock delivery details, ensuring correct stock has been delivered, price stock and put on shelves in stock room
  • keep the shop area clean and tidy

The skills our volunteers will need are:

  • excellent communication skills
  • be numerate and literate
  • able to work on own initiative
  • responsible individual with commitment to their work
  • knowledge of, or commitment to, Fair Trade, organic, local and GM free produce
  • team worker
  • supporter if RISC’s ethos
  • friendly, reliable, trustworthy and honest
