Could you be our next District Explorer Scout Leader (DofE)?

Leading group activities volunteer needed for Berkshire Scouts

The District Explorer Scout Leader (DofE) is responsible for the development and operation of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and Queen’s Scout Award within the Reading District for the benefit of the Explorer Scouts (age 14-18).

You’ll be supported by fellow Leaders, members of the County team as well as Duke of Edinburgh Advisers and Queen’s Scout Award Mentors – so you won’t be on your own!

If you are successfully appointed you’ll complete ‘Getting Started’ training as well as working towards your Scouting Award (Wood Badge). You’ll need a good understanding of the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and how this operates. Background in leading DofE Groups a is advantageous, but not essential as training will be given.

The time commitment of the role will vary depending on what events and activities are taking place.

We can offer you a free DBS check, free training, masses of career skills, and a great chance to improve your CV. There’s also lots of support from your fellow volunteers. Most importantly, it’s great fun, incredibly rewarding, a chance to meet new people and the opportunity to give back to your community! As part of your role you’ll get to take advantage of our excellent and externally recognised training programme. You’ll complete some mandatory modules to support you in your role, along with modules that you agree with your personal training adviser based on your interests and existing experience.
