The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded, charitable grant-making foundation, which supports a wide range of causes across the UK. The Foundation aims to be responsive to where need is greatest and therefore supports a wide range of charitable activity in the following categories: Arts, Education, Youth, Health, Museums and Heritage, Community, Environment, Faith, Welfare. The Trustees have a preference for charities directly delivering services and activities to those in need, and are especially keen to see applications from charities in the Welfare, Youth and Community sectors and also in regions of economic disadvantage.

Who can apply?

As long as you are not currently in receipt of a grant from them nor have applied to them within the last year, you are eligible to apply if you are one of the following:

  • UK registered charity
  • Community Incorporated Organisation
  • School, university or registered educational charity
  • Faith based organisation
  • Housing association
  • Museum and gallery
What they fund

When deciding what to apply for they strongly recommend you apply for whatever is your greatest priority and area of need – this could be in one of three areas: Capital, Revenue (often called ‘unrestricted core costs’) or Project work.

They recommend that you have around half of your funding identified before applying to the Foundation. Please note that a grant is unlikely to be more than around 10% of the total costs of the budget.

Is there a deadline?

No, applications can be submitted at any time.
