Welcome to the home of RVA Youth! Here you will learn everything that RVA and young people in Reading are up to. You’ll learn about our recent research project entitled ‘Growing up in Reading’ (read report here) and what actions we are taking as a result of the findings of this research.
What we hope to do is expand on these pages and produce a Youth App – a bouncing off point for youth social action in Reading. We believe that young people play an important role in social change – that their voices need to be heard- and we want to provide a platform that makes speaking up for young people easy to do. Our hope is to bring Reading together, recognising that we all have something valuable to contribute. It will be a place where those who have the power to ignite change will be listening, contributing to the discussion and eager to learn. We will keep you updated on the development of this app so please keep looking back here.
In the meantime however, we would still love to hear from you – that is if you are between the ages of 10 and 19 and you have something important you want others to hear; if you want to get involved in social action; if you want to volunteer, or in any way make a positive difference to your community then we want to know. Maybe you would like to be one of our young community journalists and provide content for our pages by providing topical news stories? Maybe you’re interested in tech and want to support the building of the app? Whatever it is that interests you, or that you have a passion for, then please contact Charlotte at RVA (details below).
We will have a resource page here too- from everything to clubs and activities to job and career support to mental health and wellbeing support. Our services Guide should be able to support you with what you’re needing, and if not, then again please make contact with us using the details below and we will do our best to point you in the right direction.
And at RVA we want to support and celebrate young people so we also plan to have a ‘Celebrating Achievements’ page where we will showcase young people’s accomplishments- be they academic, personal, social, voluntary, innovative/creative, artistic etc. So if you have something you’re proud of and would like celebrated, or you know someone you would like to acknowledge for something they have achieved (with their permission), then please let us know.
Lastly, just to say, our aim with all of this is to encourage all people and organisations to read our GuR report (here), and for young people to engage in social action via our new digital platform. Working together, younger and older, across cultures and communities, on issues that matter, is vital if we are to make valuable, sustainable changes to our communities that unite us and create a better Reading for everyone- all whilst not forgetting what is great about Reading now.
If any of the above inspires you to get in touch then please email Charlotte at email@example.com
