When accidents happen or illnesses take hold be part of the team saving lives and preventing further injury

First Aid / Emergency help volunteers needed for British Red Cross – Thames Valley Area

British Red Cross volunteers, fully trained in advanced first aid, are ready to help at any occasion across the UK, from a community event to a stadium-sized rock concert. When accidents happen or illnesses take hold, their knowledge can be vital in saving lives or preventing further injury.

About this role
To provide first aid, occasionally life-saving, services to those who need help at public events and to support the ambulance service in accordance with current first aid practice.

Typical tasks include

  • Helping other members of the team set up and dismantle first aid posts
  •  Providing first-aid care in line with current protocols and Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards
  • Completing all paperwork associated with first aid delivery
  • Using communication equipment, if required, in accordance with the radio licence and British Red Cross guidelines, and keeping appropriate records of use

What we are looking for

You need to have good interpersonal, diplomacy, communication and teamwork skills although full training can be given for any technical requirements. We keep the beneficiary at the heart of what we do, working to understand their needs and the difference we make. Also, someone who is:

  •  In possession of, or be willing to work towards, a recognised first aid qualification, or listed exemption, as laid down by the British Red Cross
  •  Understanding of the needs of service users of different ages, differing physical needs and varying background
Willing to regularly attend first aid group training and first aid events
  • Must be physically fit to undertake all of the procedures as detailed in the current edition of the first aid manual and in line with British Red Cross policy
  • Willing to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and adhering to the Society’s Equal Opportunities Policy

What we offer

  • The chance to work with a variety of different people from different walks of life and make a real difference to their lives
  •  Comprehensive free training so you can represent the Red Cross with confidence
  • A great opportunity to develop your existing skills and to gain new ones
  • The company of a warm and friendly team of like-minded people
  •  Reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses when on duty
  • Being a volunteer for the British Red Cross means that you can proudly say you are part of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation.

A minimum commitment of 50 hours annual service for new event first aid and ambulance support volunteers is requested.
