Counselling qualified volunteers needed for Trust House Reading in RG1

Trust House Reading provides a confidential counselling service. The Volunteer Counsellor for young people will be responsible for providing professional and confidential counselling to clients of Trust House Reading. We work with young people who are victims/survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

KEY TASKS:

  • To develop and promote a positive relationship with the service user with whom the volunteer is matched
  • Have good listening and communication skills
  • Be non-judgemental in approach and trained in counselling / play therapy or equivalent
  • To manage appropriate professional boundaries in the relationship
  • To be consistent and dependable
  • Be able to work with other professionals, families and care givers when necessary and appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality and other policies and procedures, in accordance with THR’s guidelines
  • Work in conjunction with the Lead Child & Young Person Counsellor to provide a quality service
  • Maintain records for monitoring, evaluation and tracking purposes plus service evaluation
  • Participate in regular support and supervision meetings
  • Be part of any relevant staff team training days
  • To take responsibility for own professional training and development
  • To keep up to date with developments in the field of counselling / children and young person’s therapy

We are seeking volunteers who qualified counsellors or in the final year of a Diploma course (or equivalent) that leads to being a qualified counsellor.
