Help to create everyday adventure!

Leading group activities volunteers needed for Berkshire Scouts in RG4

22nd Reading Scout Group wants your help to create every day adventure!

The group, on St. John’s Road in Caversham, is looking for enthusiastic adult volunteers to help join their existing team of volunteers in providing fun, challenge and adventure to local young people. Our leaders are normal people just like you, but by working together they make extraordinary things happen! We are friendly and can teach you everything you need to know – no prior knowledge is required – and we will support you to reach your full potential.

So what do you have to do?

Well, it’s up to you! Two of our sections are looking for support. You can choose to volunteer at either –

  • Cubs (age 8-10½) – Tuesdays 7-8.30 pm
  • Scouts (age 10½-14) – Thursdays 7.30-9 pm

Each section meets weekly (term-time) and we do lots of different things like cooking, playing games, doing experiments and even camping. One week you may be rock climbing, the next doing a community service project, the week after going on a hike in the dark! What we can guarantee is that no two weeks are the same as the young people do different things each week to earn their badges and awards. We are open to boys and girls from all faiths, backgrounds and abilities, and welcome everyone.

We can offer you a free DBS check, free training, masses of career skills, and a great chance to improve your CV. There’s also plenty of support from fellow volunteers and the chance to meet new people. The most important part is that it’s fun and incredibly rewarding.

You’ll support and encourage the young people to join in with the activities and try their best. You will be an integral part of our leadership team and your thoughts and ideas will be welcomed. The skills you will use as an adult leader in Scouts, such as effective communication and planning, can enhance your CV, and make you stand out to potential employers.

If you can’t be there every week, that’s OK; we understand and welcome you when you can come! Perhaps you could help us plan some of our fantastic activities or day trips instead. Whatever time you have to give, we can find a role for you that you will find rewarding.
