Help our dynamic and successful organisation take the next steps in its development

Trustee / Committee volunteers needed for Citizens Advice Reading in RG1

Can you help a successful and dynamic Reading based voluntary organisation achieve the next phase of its planned development?

Citizens Advice Reading is an independent charity that has been giving free, confidential, impartial advice to the people of Reading for over 75 years. Last year over 7,000 people used our service and we helped them deal with over 16,000 different problems – most commonly with benefits, tax credits, debt, housing, employment, immigration and asylum. Whilst governed locally we are part of Citizens Advice, a large and influential national organisation. They have recently awarded us an excellent rating in every area of governance, management and service delivery – the highest possible classification.

The Trustee Board is the governing body that sets strategy for the organisation, decides its policies and provides overall leadership. Applicants will need a commitment to the aims and principles of the service, together with the ability to think creatively and strategically, to exercise sound independent judgement and to communicate clearly. You will also need a willingness to learn and participate actively in discussion.

If you like to be personally challenged and have skills and experience in one or more of the following areas, we are looking for people like you – financial management, IT, PR and media liaison, research and campaigning. You should also have some knowledge of Reading’s different communities. Full induction and training will be offered to all new Trustees.

You will be expected to attend up to five Trustee Board meetings a year, normally held on a Thursday from 17.30 to 19.30 in central Reading, and to join one Sub-Committee with a quarterly meeting cycle.

This is a voluntary, unremunerated position, however out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
