Facilitators needed to help young people to explore relationships

Learning support / Mentoring volunteers needed for Explore

We are seeking volunteer facilitators to help us in our mission to empower young people to explore what is involved in creating and sustaining a healthy, loving and long-term relationship.

Explore is a relationships education charity, set up in 2000, which delivers sessions in schools for years 9-13 that help young people discuss, evaluate and explore the life skills needed for long-term, healthy relationships. By exploring the meaning and significance of long-term relationships, marriage and the importance of the family unit, we help young people adjust any pre-conceived ideas to create aspirations about their future relationships. Through our sessions, young people are able to challenge media stereotypes about relationships, and any negative experiences of their own, to gain self-awareness, confidence, understanding and hope for their own future happiness.

We apply the principle of learning by experience, where young people lead their own dialogue to investigate the relationships of ordinary couples who, in response, offer experiences from their own relationship. Marriage is used as a case study for a long term committed relationship since it is easily definable and is considered a key building block in our society. Our young people are prepared and supported to draw conclusions from these dialogues as to the moral components and life skills that produce enduring and healthy relationships, family life and marriage in today’s society.

We are looking for facilitators to run our sessions. You will be responsible for introducing the topic, engaging the students, introducing volunteer couples involved in the session, ensuring the sessions keep to time and summarising the session at the end. The sessions typically run with a class of up to 30 students for between 1 hour and a half-day. This is an ideal opportunity for trainee teachers or youth workers, and will provide classroom experience to enhance your CV.
