Do you have relevant skills to share? Join our trustee board

Trustee / Committee volunteer needed for Autism at Kingwood in RG6

Autism at Kingwood is a registered Charity, limited by guarantee, providing support to adults on the autistic spectrum to lead happy and fulfilled lives in the community. With a Head Office based in Lower Earley just off the M4 and a turnover of £6 million we work across the Thames Valley, in the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. The charity employs almost 300 staff providing support to approximately 140 adults with autism and provides advice and guidance to more than 250 people with Asperger Syndrome each year.

The impending rotation of Trustees has created opportunities for interested parties to join the Autism at Kingwood Board. We welcome applications from all individuals who feel that have skills to so share, an individual with experience or interest in Human Resources, fundraising or communications, or a clinical background may be of benefit to the charity.

The Board meets in Reading four times a year and the charity’s governance also benefits from sub-committee meetings.

We are keen to achieve a more diverse Board of Trustees and we welcome applications from all sections and ethnic backgrounds of the community. Unfortunately, in order to preserve the confidentiality of people we support we do not accept applicants whose relative is receiving support from Kingwood.

We are looking for someone with a track record of success in strategic and operational leadership and experience as a non-executive director, Trustee or Chair. You will have a keen understanding of governance and the ability to combine good judgement with excellent strategic and communication skills. You may already be a Chair of Trustees, or looking for the opportunity to chair your first board. You will lead the Board of Trustees to ensure that the charity is properly governed and managed with a key focus on maximising the ‘quality of life for autistic adults’.
With the capacity to think creatively and offer a fresh perspective you will bring the ability to engage at all levels internally and externally.

This is an unpaid voluntary position for which proper and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The initial term will be for three years with the expectation that it will be renewed for a second term of three years.

Full and further details can be downloaded from our website www.kingwood.org.uk or you can download a role description here.

To express an interest and to apply for this role, please send a CV plus a written statement of no more than 500 words to support your application.
