Do you have previous experience of canal boating? Be skipper on this week-long trip for people with disabilities – end of May 2017
Leading group activities volunteer needed for Gloucestershire Disabled Afloat Riverboats Trust in SN8
DART organise and run an annual programme of canal boat holidays for people with disabilities. We are looking for a volunteer to act as boat skipper for the week long trips.
The boat skipper is a member of a crew of three who work as a team to ensure that passengers enjoy their holiday while keeping them safe. The prime responsibility of the skipper is to ensure that the boat and canal locks are operated safely. You will be assisted in this by a crewman.
You will need previous experience of canal boating and will need to undertake our training course for new skippers and a DBS check as we work with vulnerable adults.
You will also be expected to encourage passengers to help with steering, rope work and operating locks if they would like to do so.
