Reading Mencap is a small local charity that was founded in 1962 by local parents of children and adults with learning disabilities (LD) and autism.
We are seeking to grow our trustee board, there are 5 Trustees on the Board currently and we would like to recruit a few more to a maximum of 8. We have a Chair and Treasurer but would like a Company Secretary or a trustee who is interested in improving our publicity or just anyone who wants to help the charity.
We would also love to have you if you are the parent or family member of someone with a learning disability (LD). We have a Board meeting every two months and an annual AGM which you would need to attend.
We are a charity that supports people with a learning disability with a Family Support Service that gives information and advice on an outreach case working basis on a range of issues that can cause problems in the lives of people with LD such as benefits, social care, housing, etc. We run a range of clubs for adults and children and two day activity services and we also have our own fund-raising team.
Trustees will be offered a full induction and can choose to give support in any particular area or just help with the guidance of the charity generally.
All applicants will need a DBS check. Get in touch for a chat and to find out more about us.
Reading Mencap is proud to have attained the Safe and Sound Award for good governance in charities.
