Can you provide support to individuals to help them find work?

Learning support / Mentoring volunteers needed for Salvation Army Reading Central in RG1

‘Work for All’ was a cornerstone of our founder William Booth’s social programme and we continue to forward this goal by providing information and guidance to those taking the journey into employment.

Employment Plus Local is a church-led initiative providing a local centre where people experiencing unemployment can find information and guidance on their journey into employment within a supportive environment. Attending an E+ Local is entirely voluntary and the service is available to any person who is looking for work. People may attend/join at any time when the E+ Local is open.

We are seeking volunteers who are able to assist by:

  • Establishing what support is required to help client seek and gain employment
  • Helping clients create an email account and Universal Jobmatch account
  • Advising on and editing client CVs and helping clients to fill out job application forms, both online and paper-based
  • Providing one-to-one support with computer use
  • Conducting mock-interviews with clients
  • Signposting clients to other agencies as required
  • Undertaking administrative tasks as appropriate

Skills/experience needed:

  • Interest in Salvation Army’s work
  •  Ability to keep confidences
  • Good listening and empathy skills
  • Reliable
  • Understanding of Universal Jobmatch website would be advantageous, although not essential as training can be given
  • Confident using the internet, Microsoft Office and google documents
  • Computer literate and basic knowledge of setting up computer equipment
