Our volunteers

Volunteers make a major contribution to our capacity and pool of expertise. We involve them in a range of roles including:

  • providing information about volunteering and the local voluntary sector
  • helping us develop and promote new volunteering opportunities for local people
  • supporting IT at RVA and via some of the training we offer to our service users
  • supporting the processing and publishing of information for our websites
  • general admin and event support.

We also have a team of community journalists who are out and about covering events and collecting stories to promote volunteering and the work of the voluntary sector.

    An established member of our adviser team since summer 2010, Brian is particularly interested in volunteering as a route to employment and personal development.

    Brian W

    Brian joined us in mid-2011 as one of our first admin volunteers, helping us get our online volunteering portal populated and bringing with him a wealth of experience of process development and has helped us fine tune our internal system-user guide. He has become the linchpin of our volunteer admin team processing the majority of external content submissions for our websites.

    Admin volunteer

    Jason joined our team in 2013, initially to help with administration and data entry for Reading Neighbourhood Network. As well as his work for RNN, he is now also providing support for RVA’s database maintenance.

    Lillian joined us in 2010 and has a wealth of knowledge of the local voluntary and community sector built up through her involvement with RVA and prior to that with various other local community projects.

  • Niall
    Admin Volunteer
    Niall

    Having joined the volunteer team in November 2012, Niall has taken on a number of data processing and analysis projects whilst providing a friendly welcome to those visiting our information shop.

  • Peter
    Admin volunteer

    Peter joined us in Autumn 2013 after taking early retirement from the Civil Service. He has been concentrating on helping us maintain the RVA database refreshing core data about registered organisations.
