The Walking Bus Reading Schools aims to encourage parents to walk to school, or at least part way and then meet in a group ‘bus’ and walk together to school.
It relies on volunteer parents, teachers, other people from the community to help ‘bus’ the children into school. Streets are then safer, particularly around the school gates, and everyone gets fitter and a chance to socialise. Parents can also take turns to free up their time.
Initially aimed at Whitley schools, but it would be great for the ‘bus’ to catch on in the whole of Reading.
