Reading Bicycle Kitchen is a fix-it-yourself bicycle maintenance project opening in April 2014. The scheme allows cyclists to hire a workstand and get access to professional tools, with knowledgeable volunteer mechanics there to support them if and when needed.
Key activities include:
– drop-in fix-it-yourself sessions
– maintenance training classes
– women only sessions
– young people clubs
– no wage individuals working towards earning a bike
The scheme will also act as a community hub for the Reading cycling scene and, through recycling used bikes and parts, will help reduce the number of cycles going to landfill and increase the affordability of cycling in the area.
