Housing First Worker – Reading – closing date 29 March 2017

Reading Street Population and Outreach (SPOT) Team work with rough sleepers living on the streets of Reading, working to support them to access and sustain accommodation.

We are starting a Housing First pilot scheme to work with complex and long term rough sleepers where more traditional routes out of homelessness have not worked. This is an innovative model focusing on finding long-term housing first, then providing support to address the issues that contributed to an individual’s homelessness. This pilot scheme is initially being funded for two years.

Working alongside Reading SPOT, you will identify a small number of clients where this approach is appropriate. You will then lead on delivering this service, working with a caseload of around 10 clients with the goal of helping them to sustain their accommodation. This will involve working with a range of agencies and housing providers to deliver this.

You will have experience of helping vulnerable homeless or former homeless people to identify personal goals and supporting them through change. You will have experience of housing management and tenancy sustainment alongside an understanding of the issues involved in housing street homeless people. You will also have an understanding of how to support entrenched rough sleepers who may have complex needs including mental and physical health needs and substance use.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead in delivering a different type of support to rough sleepers in Reading.
