Designated Safeguarding Officer training – for charities and community groups

Thursday 6 December 2018
Introduction:

As part of the overall safeguarding for you organisation it is good practice for charities and voluntary groups to have a person in the organisation who acts as the lead on safeguarding concerns. This person is often referred to as the Designated Safeguarding Officer or Designated Person, and is responsible for handling safeguarding concerns raised by staff, volunteers or service users in the organisation, and then reporting them through to Children’s Social Care. Some organisations may find that this role is best shared between a DSO and a Deputy DSO.

As this course builds on previous knowledge of safeguarding practices, attendees must have completed Universal Safeguarding Children Training and Safeguarding Adults training (whichever is relevant to their services) before attending this course. If you are unsure, please check with us.

By the end of this course you will understand:

1. The role of the Designated Safeguarding Officer

2. The internal safeguarding processes that are needed within your organisation

3. The external safeguarding processes that are needed between your organisation and Social Care

4. How to manage a Child Protection Disclosure

5. The ongoing Child Protection Process

6. How to manage allegations within your organisation

7. How to achieve a safer workforce

8. What to do if the process doesn’t seem to work

This is a practical training session with scenarios to work through. You will also receive training materials.

The course includes refreshments.
