Tilehurst Together (Supporting ourselves; Supporting each other) is a new project which aims to bring together local people to support each other, building on a gap identified through  Reading Voluntary Action’s Social Prescribing service. It is funded through the Berkshire Community Foundation’s Life Less Lonely grants programme.

Many patients referred by GPs at Tilehurst Potteries surgery share common issues including social isolation and loneliness, anxiety and loss.  Tilehurst Together will offer  group support for people to develop more connections and learn how they can improve their general wellbeing. Topics for the group could include relaxation and mindfulness, coping with bereavement and making healthy lifestyles choices.

Project aims include:

  • Reducing social and emotional isolation
  • Increasing mental wellbeing and personal resilience
  • Increasing involvement in local activities.

We are currently recruiting a part-time co-ordinator for the project, who will work closely with local communities and people to develop a programme of group support and activities.
