Stay Well and Warm: weather warning issued for 7 to 10 December

Primary interest
Health

The Met Office has issued a Level 2 weather warning for the period Thursday 7 December to Sunday 10 December. There is a 70% probability of severe cold weather, icy conditions and heavy snow. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services.

Very cold weather can have a serious impact on health and wellbeing, especially for vulnerable adults (older people, people with long-term health conditions and people with disabilities), those living in cold homes and families with young children.

Please help us to keep people safe and well by:

  • following Stay Well and Warm advice
  • Sharing this advice with family and friends
  • checking in on the vulnerable residents you work with
  • being a good neighbour

Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know or work with can be obtained from the winter health pages at NHS Choices (www.nhs.uk) or from your local chemist. If you are worried about your health or that of somebody you know, ring NHS 111.
