The recent business grant schemes have left a hole for charities who have found themselves ineligible for support. The Local Authority Discretionary Grants Fund sought to address this and was made available to four priority business types including ‘Charitable businesses in receipt of Charitable Business Rates Relief’.

However, it only applied to charities that would otherwise have been entitled to Small Business Rates Relief aligned with the original Small Business Grant scheme, i.e. a property with a rateable value below £15,000.

Many local charities including The Mustard Tree, Age UK Berkshire and Reading Community Learning Centre are renting properties that have a rateable value greater than this. If you are in a similar position would you please let us know as we are raising it with the MP.
