Coronavirus Response – Telephone Befriending Volunteers Needed
Who needs help?

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak Engage Befriending have paused their regular befriending visits and have switched to a telephone service for their existing clients. They have also extended their service to provide telephone befriending to those needing to isolate as a result of the outbreak.

How will I help?

Making a twice-weekly phone call to an individual in the Reading area who may be struggling with isolation, to provide companionship and a listening ear, making a brief note of the conversation.

What support will there be?

You will be able to access online prior to being matched with a client. Engage have staff on duty to provide support 12 to 4pm Mon to Friday- should a challenging situation arise. There is also an emergency contact person available outside of these hours.

What do I need to be able to help?
The volunteer will need to already have a DBS which we can verify. They will also need access to a telephone at home that they are prepared to use for this purpose (hiding their personal number).
What next?
Please complete the expression of interest form found HERE and a member of the Engage team will be in touch. Please note that expressions of interest will close after the first 30 respondents and Engage are looking for around 20 new volunteers.
