16 May 2019 is the date of the next Befriending Forum on the third floor of Central Library from 12.30 until 4ish. It’s open to anyone wanting to reduce loneliness and social isolation in Reading – community groups, organisations and individuals.
Launch of the Ready Friends toolkit
We’ll be launching the new Ready Friends toolkit, with hard copies for all attendees and a presentation of the online version.
Round-table discussion about transport
Transport is under the spotlight in a round-table discussion lead by Peter Absolon from Readibus. The session will start with a couple of short films about the Talking Buses project from Age UK Kent, followed by input from participants to explore taking action to reduce this often-cited barrier for people who would love to get out but are stuck at home the moment.
Celebrating friendship volunteers
There will be an event in Reading during national Befriending Week (1-7 November) to celebrate the contribution of friendship volunteers (including befrienders) and share ideas, good practice and learning. Find out from the Befriending Forum’s working group what’s being proposed and how you and your volunteers can get involved. You will also find out about another new initiative, led by Reading Borough Council, to bring befrienders and befriendees together regularly for ‘friendship socials’, beginning with a tea dance on 6th December.
And it all starts with a lovely lunch!
