Rachel Giglio – Reading Refugee Support Group
Special Award – Thanks and best wishes*
Rachel came to the UK four years ago speaking very little English. She has now has learnt the language, completed a Masters in International Human Rights Law at the University and, for the past three years, has volunteered for Reading Refugee Support Group. First assisting with the Drop-in centre and later as a caseworker offering advice and support to asylum seekers.
Her compassion, combined with her intelligence and determined hard work, has made a real and tangible difference to her clients. She is always a positive member of the team, often in difficult circumstances.
Heading for Brazil in June Rachel will be greatly missed both for her work and, more importantly, as a person.
*Reading is an international town that attracts people from across the world for work and study. Whether here for a few months or a few years, many can and do make a difference to life in our town, before returning home or going elsewhere.
