Thanks to funding from RCVYS (Reading Children’s & Voluntary Youth Services) Autism Berkshire is delighted to be able to provide a series of training workshops for professionals who work with autistic children and young people in Reading at the discounted rate of £10 per person.
We are also able to offer twilight or INSET training sessions about autism for groups of staff at schools and pre-schools in Reading for just £75, compared with our normal fee of £250.
The workshops are suitable for school staff, children’s social care workers and staff in the voluntary sector and aim to increase understanding of autism among professionals, so that they are better able to include and support autistic children and help them to achieve.
They will be led by Carly Jones MBE, an autism advocate who lives in Arborfield. She has two autistic daughters and was herself diagnosed as autistic at the age of 32.
She said: “Courses like this can help us to move from a narrative of awareness and acceptance of autism to taking action and making meaningful changes for individuals and families.
Absolutely anyone who has any contact with autistic young people in their work, especially in schools, will benefit. It would be lovely to see some teachers at workshops – and senior members of school staff as well.
Four workshops are available in May, June and July. They are as follows:
• An Introduction to Autism (two dates)
• Autism and Girls (two dates)
• Sensory Differences in Autism
• Anger Management.
The venue for the workshops is Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC), in London Street.
Places are £10 per person for professionals who work in the Borough of Reading. Places can also be booked by professionals from other council areas at our normal fee of £30 per person.
Full details of dates, times and booking information are available online at www.autismberkshire.org.uk.
