The Asda Foundation supports small, grass roots organisations in several ways throughout the year. Working with Asda’s Community Champions in store, they are able to work with a range of organisations and groups on a variety of local community projects.

As social distancing measures begin to ease within the UK, this new grant focuses on reuniting communities, celebrating togetherness, and supporting groups as they begin to resume their usual activities in person.

The ‘Bringing Communities Back Together’ grant will provide financial aid to local groups in two phases. Phase 2 covers October – December; either through a celebration event (following social distancing guidelines) or by getting their activities and services back on track. Groups who cannot physically be back together, but whose activities are still open and available to the community, may also be included in this award.

Who can apply?

Not-for-profit registered charities, registered not-for-profit companies, community interest companies and unincorporated clubs or associations in the UK can apply. The Foundation does not accept applications directly from individuals.

Application forms can be obtained from Asda Community Champions, who are based in local Asda stores. Applicants can use the store locator link on the Foundation website to get in touch with their local store and speak to their Community Champion about their project proposal.

What could the grant support?

There are three options within this grant. Groups must be clear from the outset which option they intend to apply for: Celebration Event, Getting Activities Back on Track, or Essential Support.

  • Celebration event examples: Welcome back party, or community celebration
  • Getting activities back on track examples: Gardening clubs, recreational activities, lunch clubs.
  • Essential support examples: Community food/hygiene banks, mental health awareness groups.
  • All phase 2 grant activities and events must take place between 1st October and 31st December 2021.
  • Groups may apply for one grant only to the maximum value of £1,000 and minimum of £250 per grant.

The following will not be funded as part of this grant – Venue Hire, Utility Bills, Storage, Salaries, Promotional Costs, Coaching or One-Off Kit, Training Kit, Alcohol, Toys, Raffle Prizes, Excursions, Transport Costs.
