Fantastic opportunity for someone interested in geology and/or looking to build a career in the heritage sector
Research volunteer needed for Reading Museum & Town Hall in RG1
Reading Museum would like a volunteer to help one Friday every fortnight with our geology collections. They will work closely with the collection to ensure that they are correctly audited. This will include checking the accuracy of documentation, the object’s location and photographing objects. The role does not require an in depth knowledge of the subject; just an interest, attention to detail and accuracy.
The volunteer will receive training in handling the artifacts, using the computer database and the museum’s documentation system. Due to the level of training we’d like someone who is initially able to volunteer for six months. It would be perfect for somebody looking to learn something different or a student considering a career in heritage.
The Collections
The Museum’s geology collection contains local material but is also made up of items from around Britain and overseas. The fossil collection is the largest section of the geology collection.
