Can you support an Emergency Shelter in Reading this winter?
Each winter during freezing weather, a group of organisations provide an emergency shelter in Reading for rough sleepers. The scheme, the Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP), provides a hot meal, a space to wash and a safe, warm place to sleep when it’s most needed.
We need volunteers to sign up and be ‘on call’ for an evening each week on a rolling rota. When called upon, the Shelter Support Volunteers will be needed to sign in, chat with and generally make the SWEP clients feel welcome at the Shelters.
Volunteers should be warm and friendly with good listening skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Volunteers will need to be happy and able to be called upon at short notice.
The volunteers will receive a SWEP Volunteers Guide and an On-Site Induction. Volunteering will be at Town Centre locations and free parking is available. Reasonable Travel Expenses will be paid.
Please Note: SWEP is temperature dependent. When it is running, Volunteers on the rolling rota will be contacted on their specific day each week, to attend that evening.
