People are living longer and 23% of the UK will be aged 65 and over by 2035. The main aim of UK Older People’s Day is to celebrate the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society and tackle negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes.
On Friday 14 October Reading Older People’s Working Group (OPWG) is organising a celebration event with a wide range of presentations, demonstrations and information displays. We need a team of volunteers to act as welcomers, refreshments helpers, stewards and guides to help visitors get the most from the event.
If you could help on the day, and attend a briefing session during the previous week, we want to hear from you. As well as helping the day run smoothly, you’ll meet some new people and find out lots about a range of topics. And you don’t have to be an ‘older person’ to volunteer – this is an intergenerational event with an older people focus, so it’s a chance for anyone to contribute.
As part of our new Team Reading initiative Reading Voluntary Action is coordinating the recruitment of the hosting volunteer team on behalf of the members of the OPWG, and volunteers who are already established with member organisations in other ways are very welcome to sign up and join with new recruits to help form the hosting team for the event.
