Age UK Berkshire has a Money Management service, which offers support to older people who need help with managing their financial affairs. The Money Management team carries out an assessment of clients who are referred to the service and formulates a plan to help them. Volunteers are required to help to deliver the on-going support.
- To enhance the quality of life of older and disabled people who live alone and have limited social contact and/or support network, by visiting them regularly at home, generally on a fortnightly basis.
- To spend time during visits listening to, and talking to clients, usually on a one-to-one basis and determining the best way forward to manage their budget. This may include delivering cash, helping them to pay bills, setting up direct debits/standing orders, helping to arrange payment plans to clear debts, sorting through their post, etc.
- Occasionally, you may be required to help the client to make certain purchases, such as items of clothing or equipment.
- To report back to the Money Management team following visits to clients on a regular basis and alert them to any concerns clients may have, or any concerns you may have about clients.
